For some reason I really enjoy reading “A Day in the Life” posts from other bloggers, so I thought I’d mix it up and share one of my own! I’m sharing what a week day looks for me right now. My schedule changes depending on what I am enjoying in any given season, but my day-to-day has looked pretty similar to this lately. My days flow depending on what I’m interested in/enjoying at the moment, and this sort of routine is making me happy at the moment! Enjoy an average work day in the life of Morgan…
Morning
I set my alarm (cough, alarms) for 5 a.m. I am one of those terrible people who sets a million alarms so they don’t oversleep. I never really do, but I’ve had a habit of setting a bunch of alarms since high school and I never really got out of it. If you read this post, you know I had to train myself to become a morning person 🙂 I got up and out of bed by my 5:10 alarm and made my bed. I always make my bed — makes my space feel so much more organized! I brushed my teeth, splashed some water on my face and then sat down for a few minutes with my daily devotional. I’m currently using this devotional by Lysa Terkeurst. I really enjoy starting my day reflecting on my blessings and setting a positive intention for the day. I drank a glass of water while I’m getting ready so I can rehydrate after a night of sleep. I swiped Cocokind matcha stick under my eyes because it decreases puffiness/bags but mostly because it feels really nice. I then got dressed, grabbed my work clothes, laptop, lunch bag and gym bag, then headed out the door.
I arrived at the gym around 5:40 a.m., placed my stuff in a locker and got going. I felt pretty awake and began by warming up with some dynamic movement and yoga. I lifted backs and biceps and felt pretty strong for only doing gentle exercise last week. I used dumb bells and a few machines and ended my workout on the row machine for five minutes, which was harder than the last time I did it (probably because it was about a month ago lol). I stretched out and headed to the showers at 6:30 a.m. to get ready for work.
I showered, got ready at the gym and headed off to work. Luckily I washed my hair the night before and didn’t get too sweaty at the gym, so a little bit of my favorite dry shampoo saves the day again. My office is only about ten minutes from the gym, so I listened to the S-Town podcast on the short drive over. I have to admit, I’m not that interested in it and expected it would be more engaging since I’ve heard so much about it. I got to work at 7:15 a.m., made a coffee with collagen, cacao powder and stevia, and checked emails.
At 8:00 a.m., I added some hot water to my oats/chia/flax mixture and mixed in some almond butter and a banana. I read the Skimm while eating my breakfast to catch up on the news. I’ve been reading it for a few years and love that I can get a quick synopsis of the latest events in five minutes. My morning consists of meetings and lots of writing (I work in corporate communications). I made some tea around 10:00 a.m. instead of opting for a second coffee, go me!
Afternoon
I ate lunch at 12:00 p.m., which consisted of a flatout wrap with chicken breast, organic muenster cheese, cabbage, shredded carrots and avocado. I had some cucumbers, tomatoes, crackers and kale pesto hummus on the side. And then I ate some dark chocolate like I do every single day after lunch 🙂 My afternoon consisted of a few more meetings, drafting communications plans and other work things. I had a One protein bar around 3:30 p.m. I know these aren’t the cleanest bars, but I really enjoy them so it’s all good!
Evening
I headed out of work around 4:45 p.m. and changed out of my work clothes immediately once I got home because I waited for that moment all day! I rolled out my yoga mat and flowed for about 30 minutes. My at-home practice has been slow and focused on stretching; I really enjoy taking a few minutes to come back into my body after sitting at a desk all day! After practice, I meditated using the HeadSpace app. I then turned on some music and snacked on some chips and salsa while I made dinner around 7:00 p.m. I made a huge salad with romaine, cabbage, mushrooms, shredded carrots, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, avocado, Trader Joe’s almond butter dressing and a Hilary’s Eat Well veggie burger. So yummy! I watched The Office on Netflix and relaxed while enjoying some dessert, which was GT’s kombucha and chocolate coconut cream cups I had in the freezer.
I made some of Hummusapien’s cookie dough protein bars to snack on throughout the week, and packed my breakfast and lunch for the next day. I cleaned my kitchen, put away some clothes and laid out my work outfit for the following day. I took some of my Calm magnesium supplement. I really enjoy drinking this to wind down at night and it’s great for bone and heart health, and anxiety. I took a quick shower and hopped in bed for some reading! I answered my question of the day from this fun journal my sister bought me for Christmas and read some of East of Eden by John Steinback. I just started it and am looking forward to see how the story unfolds. Reading before bed helps me sleep — if you read this post, you know I try to limit the electronics before bed. I closed my book around 10 p.m. for some shuteye after a full day!
Like I mentioned, every day is a little bit different — sometimes I have errands to run or a yoga class to teach after work, sometimes I eat wayyy more snacks and other days I read instead of working out or doing yoga in the morning. I listen to what my body needs and try to be flexible depending on what life throws at me, which isn’t always easy for the planner in me. I hope you enjoyed this peak into my life! It’s nothing glamorous or crazy, but it’s a normal day in a life I feel very blessed to live.
Sending love!
