- Yoga, Trader Joes, The Crown on Netflix, For the Love by Jen Hatmaker, Almond Butter Green Dream Smoothie…this weekend has been full of so many good things! This is the first weekend in a long time that I’ve had absolutely nothing to do — nowhere to be, no obligations, just wide open days. It has been so nice! I feel like the last few weeks (maybe even months) have been pretty jam packed and I’ve been on the go a lot. My busy schedule was starting to get to me because this week I felt like I was in a total funk. I didn’t have much energy, experienced brain fog and just overall felt pretty “meh.” It’s life and it happens. I don’t try to beat myself up for not feeling great but I try to recognize my emotions, take more time for myself and do things that make me happy. This week involved a lot of reading and yoga to get me through the winter blues. But after a relaxing, no plans (!!!) weekend, I’m happy to report that my energy and mood are much better. As I mention often, it’s so important to slow down and listen to what your body is telling you. We run on a limited amount of energy and although our lives our jam packed, we can’t expect our bodies to keep up. It’s necessary for our mental and physical health to recharge and take time to rest. Once we take the time to refill our cup, we can get back out there and on to conquering our dreams. More on that in last week’s post.
Now onto the real star of the show, the Almond Butter Green Dream Smoothie. Smoothies have been on repeat for me since after the holidays. I’ve always loved them but for some reason I just can’t get enough lately — especially this amazing combo. This is a classic recipe, nothing too crazy and no ingredients that have to be imported from a wild forest but don’t let the basic ingredients deceive you, this recipe is delicious! It has a great balance of healthy fats, protein, greens and carbs and will keep you full for hours. Trust me, I’ve made it three times this week. 🙂 Grab your blender and get blending folks!
Almond Butter Green Dream Smoothie
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1 date
- 1/2 cup frozen spinach (I usually add a bit more because you can’t taste it!)
- 1 huge tablespoon of almond butter
- 1 serving hemp protein powder (I love Nutiva because it’s a great price and thickens smoothies but feel free to sub more any other protein powder)
- 1 scoop collagen peptides (optional)
- Big dash of cinnamon
- 1/2 cup almond milk (can add more depending on thickness preference)Â
Top it with whatever goodies you have on hand. I love mixing it up with a different combo every time I make it with toppings like granola, chia seeds, cacao nibs, blueberries or coconut flakes. Yum.
That’s it! No fairy dust or berries from the Amazon, just the basics you can scoop up at your local grocery store. It will only take you a few minutes to put together and your belly will be very happy with you. I love to make the Almond Butter Green Dream the night before and store it in the fridge overnight so I can grab it and take it to work with me the next morning. The consistency stays the same, making it the perfect grab-and-go breakfast. Let me know if you try it out. I hope you have a great week! 🙂
x,
