I’ve always loved listening to stories, from being read to as a child to listening to audio books, the art of storytelling has always intrigued me. I discovered what podcasts are, as I believe many others did, when Serial sparked the interest of many around the world. After listening to Serial a few years ago, I kind of forgot about podcasts until this year. I rediscovered them once I realized how many influencers that I look up to host them. I had no idea there are podcasts for just about everything you can think of from cooking, finances, intuitive eating to love. I quickly became obsessed with a few podcasts and binged many of their episodes on my commute to and from work.
I have learned so much from these podcasts — they’ve enhanced my knowledge of opened my mind to new topics. The hosts and some of their guests have become role models to me, which you know is important to me if you read this post. I enjoy these women because they’re real — they share both the good, bad and the downright hard but they’re transparency includes love, light, positivity and lessons for all. I so appreciate the time they take to tell stories and the vulnerability it takes to open up. I love going for a long walk and listening to a podcast — it’s like having a great talk with one of your best girlfriends.
I’ve become a dedicated listener to a few podcasts that focus on physical and mental health, wellness and connection. I’ve shared my five favorite podcasts below, what they’re about and their overall message. Check them out!
The Chasing Joy Podcast
Georgie, blogger from init4thelongrun, hosts an awesome health and wellness podcast. She interviews lots of well-known wellness influencers and covers topics like body positivity, being present and avoiding the comparison trap to live intuitively. I really appreciate how genuine she is and how approachable she makes health and wellness. I love that as a host she truly listens to her guests and is a great interviewer. She is positive and funny, bringing light of things that many in the health world can obsess over. She knows that a doughnut can just be a doughnut and you don’t need to run for the hills because of gluten, sugar and…carbs!! Gasp.
Super Soul Conversations with Oprah Winfrey
No surprise here, Oprah hosts some of the most interesting guests of any podcast I’ve listened to. Her shows include an impressive and intriguing line up from Deepak Chopra, President Jimmy Carter to Ariana Huffington. Her episodes are enlightening, laced with stories of spirituality and personal growth and explores finding deeper meaning in the world around us. She and her guests are real and vulnerable, and truly enlightening. If you want to get inspired to become the best version of yourself, you need to give this a listen.
Conversations from the Heart with Yoga Girl
Rachel Brathen shares raw insight into what life as “Yoga Girl” is really like. She is down to earth and grounded despite her massive success and 2 million+ Instagram followers. She drops the occasional F bomb and shares her hardships and struggles — from being a new mom to the pressures placed on women in the modern world. She hosts lovely guests and discusses all things yoga, business and life. If you’re a yogi, mom or lover of raw conversations, you’ll really enjoy this podcast.
Nourishing Women Podcast
Meg Dixon and Victoria Myers are Registered Dietitians and owners of the integrative nutrition practice, Nourishing Minds Nutrition. I seriously love this podcast. They take a real life approach to nutrition — no food rules, phony diets, restricting or calorie counting. This podcast will teach you to have a healthy relationship with food, why calories don’t matter (!!) and how to live a holistic, healthy life without obsession, which includes tacos and wine #blessed. They’re positive, lighthearted and supportive, and are sure to make you smile. Check them out for all things intuitive eating, gut health and wellness.
For the Love with Jen Hatmaker Podcast
Jen Hatmaker is light, warm-hearted and genuine, which really shines through in her podcast. Jen launched her podcast a few months ago and it has quickly become one of my favorites. She covers a variety of topics from the importance of girlfriends to how food brings people together to how to navigate the holidays. Jen’s faith and hilarity have quickly turned her into a role model for me. She interviews guests who are full of moxie (many of whom are badass women) and her guest share raw stories that may have you reaching for some tissues. Her authenticity and lightheartedness will surely leave a smile on your face. For lots of laugh, love and positivity — check her out!
