Happy Friday! This week, it’s just been Spike and I holding down the fort. My family is on vacation in Italy and while I wish I was there, don’t feel too bad for me because I went on vacation to Hawaii in May 🙂 I went to Italy with my family two years ago and it was a total dream! I’d love to visit again and hopefully check out the Amalfi Coast.
I thought this week would be pretty lonely and go by slowly, but it actually flew by! Work has kept me pretty busy and it was nice to have a lot of me time. I just lived by myself for a year so it actually felt pretty normal, aside from being in a much bigger place, which freaked me out a little. Thank God I have this tough guard dog 😉
Spike is definitely missing the rest of the family. He has been following me from room to room like a shadow haha. We’ve gone on SO many walks and he loves it. He’s not the quickest walking companion, but it’s nice for both of us to get fresh air.
Workouts I’ve done this week
Aside from tons of walking, I’ve gone to the yoga studio every day for yoga/barre classes. I went through a period where I did barre pretty often; I really enjoyed it and felt strong! It’s been nice to incorporate barre back into my routine since the yoga studio I go to offers it. You may see the two-three pound weights in barre and think it must be a joke but don’t be fooled, barre is tough! It’s a great workout and my body really responds well to the low impact, high intensity format.
Aside from barre, I’ve taken a few yoga classes and squeezed in one run. I’ve been trying to run at least once a week but man, it is tough in this heat! The humidity takes the challenge to a whole other level. I managed to a three mile run thanks to a lot of motivation from my workout playlist.
What I ate this week
This week, my meals have been pretty simple since it’s just me! I’ve had a lot of my staples: omelets, oatmeal, dark chocolate and ice cream. I always have to have something sweet after lunch and dinner and the dark chocolate below is my favorite!
This week, I’ve been really into BBQ chicken quesadillas…so random. I topped a whole wheat wrap with shredded organic chicken, BBQ sauce and mozzarella cheese and heated it up on a frying pan. I ate this with a big salad on the side and boom — dinner ready in five minutes!
I made a smoothie this week that I haven’t made since winter! The main ingredient will probably surprise you but trust me, it’s delish! I made this smoothie with 1/2 roasted then frozen sweet potato, vanilla protein, 1 date, lots of cinnamon, 2 T almond butter, flax and almond milk, then topped it with cacao nibs. It’s so yummy and very filling!
While it’s been nice to hang out with Spikey this week, I’m looking forward to seeing my family and hearing all about their trip! I’ve also been staying up too late reading Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine so I’m hoping to catch up on some sleep this weekend. Anyone else can’t put down a good book even when it’s way past your bedtime?!
I hope you have an awesome weekend 🙂
