I have very exciting news — we’re moving! After two and a half years in Memphis, we are on to the next stop in our journey. We are moving to the Charlotte, NC area!
We moved to Memphis in October 2019 for Tyler’s job. Memphis wasn’t on our radar for places to live, but when he got the opportunity, we decided to take it. I have been lucky to work remotely for three years so we have flexibility on where we can move.
Moving to a new city, halfway across the country was an experience. Neither of us had been to Memphis before and we had no idea what to expect. Just as we had begun to get settled in our new city, the pandemic hit. It’s hard enough to make friends as an adult, and the pandemic certainly did not help!
We spent a lot of time together just the two of us in 2020 (and beyond). Moving to Memphis was the first time that we had lived together, and then we were away from friends and family and navigating a pandemic. Luckily we did not get sick of each other lol. Hence the engagement and wedding plans!
Although this experience has brought us closer, we wished we weren’t as far from friends and family (it’s a 14-hour car ride). We never felt fully settled in Memphis. We knew it was a stop along our journey, but not somewhere we planned to set roots.
We are so thrilled that Tyler got a new job in NC. Moving to the Charlotte area has been our goal for a while now. We love that it’s closer to home and that we are near Lake Norman and can enjoy lake life! Charlotte is a great city and we love the easy access to the beach and mountains, which we have missed here in Memphis.
Overall, Memphis was a great experience for us. Although it didn’t feel like home, we got to experience a new part of the country and culture together. There’s a lot to see in the US! It’s exciting to live in a new place. We met some great people and grew closer together as a couple. If you have the opportunity to live in a new place, even if it’s just for a few years, I think it’s a great experience.
We are excited about our next city. We know some people who live in the area and I am hopeful that we will have more of a community in Charlotte. My dad is a huge UNC basketball fan and took me to a few games when I was younger. I always said I would live in North Caroline one day, and it’s finally coming true! Go Heels!
We had hoped to buy a home but the crazy housing market and our short timeline had other plans for us. We plan to rent for a year and then hopefully buy a home. I am thrilled that we are renting a house and Ronan will have a backyard to play in.
I am so grateful for all of the exciting milestones this year is bringing us. I’m proud of Tyler and the work he put into his job search. This has been a long process but I know everything is unfolding as it’s meant to.
We have about 10 more days in Memphis and then we will be en route to NC. Here’s to our next adventure!
Thanks for reading.
